Tengri Farms : A Sanctuary for Horses and Humans

Tengri Farms is a non-profit equine rehabilitation sanctuary that also provides amenities for mental health and other healing practitioners to conduct their work. Our vision is to include clients in the process of rehabilitating the animals that come to the sanctuary as a way to further their learning and help both human and horses build tools for living resilient lives.

We also aim to provide support for underqualified individuals to receive mental health care (where insurance falls short) with monthly and annual treatment funding programs. We also help those interested in furthering their equestrian endeavors through programs like the Iron Orchid Riding Academy and the Colorado Mounted Archers Club.

Woman and Horse

A Horse Sanctuary

Not all horses are meant to be ridden, and some just need to be spoken to a little more softly. We offer a space where horse can come to relearn how to be horses again. That may look like retraining with soft feel and behavioral conditioning, physical and mental rehab, or just providing them a safe landing where they can be who they need to be. Horses that can be retrained may be adopted into appropriate homes, while those who can't may remain residents of the sanctuary.

Horses are evaluated by our professional trainers and behavior specialists to assess their ability to cohabitate in the herd as well as their willingness to partake in the mental health programs.

Horses who are assessed as candidates are then integrated into the herd, or put in a private pen for rehabilitation or training. Their progression is then utilized for the two-legged participants.

How it works

How Horses Can Help Us Heal

Authenticity

Horses hold us accountable for our authenticity and integrity. They expect us to be as we truly are.

Decreases anxiety & depression

Being outdoors with horses in a low pressure environment is a great way to improve your overall health and mood.

Reduces stress levels

Studies have shown that the electromagnetic field of a horse is 5x that of a human, and their heartbeat can regulate our heart rhythm and reduce stress.

Communication on a different plane

Horses don't speak English, but they are always communicating. They can teach us valuable listening and observation skills
